Jasmine Mazard-Larry started high school when her family were homeless when their house burned down. Four years later, she's graduating as the valedictorian of her class with an 8.07 grade point average.
She told Good Morning America,
“I think going through all of this … has led me to want to persevere and want to show little girls or boys my age that they can do it too," the 17-year-old.
Mazard-Larry attends Dr. Kiran C. Patel High School. Enrolled in Advanced Placement classes and participated in dual enrollment and the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education program, helped boost her GPA.
She will receives her high school diploma next week and an associate's degree from a local community college.
"I use my little brother as my motivation," she said. "Sometimes it can be challenging, but I look at him and I want to be a role model for him."
Mazard-Larry said she has plans to attend college and hopes to become a doctor.
