Sha’Carri Richardson is going to the World Championships Friday (7 July) at the 2023 U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Richardson took off running at 10.82 taking the title from Brittany Brown (10.90). Tamari Davis was third with a time of 10.99. It's Richardson's first major win since she was disqualified from competing individually in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 for a positive marijuana test.
She told NBC, "Now, I stand here with you again and I'm ready, mentally, physically and emotionally," Richardson said after her victory. "I'm here to say. 'I'm not back, I'm better.'"
Richardson is the world’s second-fastest woman this year after posting a personal-best 10.71 seconds in Thursday’s first round, the fastest time by an American in 12 years.
