First African American Woman To Pit A Car In One Of NASCAR’s Top Three Series

Brehanna Daniels has broken down a barrier in a sport that is not usually associated with African Americans or women. She is a pit crew member, a tire changer, affiliated with NASCAR Racing.

Daniels is from Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Daniels attended Norfolk State University, where she majored in communications and played as point guard for the school's basketball team.

Daniels made it through the various levels of tryouts for pit crew members and is now the sport’s first African-American female tire changer.

She was joined by Dalanda Ouendeno on pit road, marking the first time two Black women changed tires for a team in the Daytona 500.

Daniels and O'Leary remain in the sport.
